The GFNY Camp is 7 days of group riding with ample time as well to explore the highlights of famous Tuscany: Florence, Lucca, Pisa and more. The camp is based in Lucca, the heart of cycling. No where else will you find that many small and fun roads combined with great weather, cycling fanatic locals and delicious food. We call it the “Disneyland of cycling”.
Lucca is only 30 and 60 min from Pisa and Florence airports respectively. It offers any kind of riding from flat to hilly to mountainous - and we’ll sample it all.
At GFNY Camps, we provide guided and supported rides each day. We’re local so we know all the best routes and what to avoid.
We can help you find the best accommodation and best places to eat. If you come with a group, consider hiring your personal chef. Email us at
italia@gfny.com for any questions and/or help.
Here is the general schedule of events and what you can expect during the camp.
Saturday, April 1: Arrival day in Lucca. Settle in, put your bike together, catch up on some missed sleep. Take some time to adjust your bike gearing and position. If you want, go for a short ride to stretch your legs.
Early evening, we meet for the Camp Welcome Dinner. We will be enjoying a week in Lucca together. Besides the cycling, there are plenty of tourism activities for GFNY Italia Campers & Families to enjoy together. We’re making space in the riding schedule for
April 2-8: The group rides will be led by local guides including GFNY Founders Lidia and Uli. You can expect 50km-100km of cycling each day, with varied topography.
The camp is also a great time to learn from our experienced ride guides who will be accompanying you on the ride. There's plenty of time to learn from their experience and ask questions about technique, training, and nutrition.
The group rides will be departing at 10am each day. We set the meeting point at a local coffee bar, to have a coffee, snack and toilet as we gather for the ride. Please arrive no later than 9:45am to ensure an on-time departure. Before the start of each ride, there will be a briefing about the route for the day.
The meeting point and the route will be emailed to you each evening before the next day’s ride.
We hope for perfect weather conditions every single day but will change things up if rain is in the forecast for one day but not another. Daytime temperatures usually range from 15-20C (55-65F) during that time of the year. Spring in Tuscany is magical.
There will be one support van traveling along the day’s route and carry any extra clothing or food you would need (or tired bodies if necessary).
